Competition Team:

Until 1989, the Academy of Dance Arts Competition team consisted only of solo dancers, at which time two groups were added.  As of the year 2000, the team has grown to include a Senior Team, Junior Team, Mini Team and Novice Team,  in addition to eight soloists, a duet and trio.  Dancers are accepted into the competition team program by teacher recommendation, either at the point when a new group in being formed or when a soloist is meeting the necessary skill requirements and demonstrating the important personality characteristics needed.

All competition dancers must be enrolled in ballet, in addition to the competition class, regardless of the style of dance they compete with.  Currently the competition team team consists of dancers performing Tap, Jazz, Lyrical, Modern, Ballet and Funk.  A Tumbling group is in the works.  The Competition Team attends approximately one competition per month, usually within a one and one half hour driving distance or less, and in a group circumstance the entire group must register to attend in order for the group to participate.

The competitions we attend are all staffed by quality judges consisting of teachers as well as performers, in order to provide our dancers with well rounded feed back.  In an effort to give the competition team dancers exposure to as many other dancers, and dance professionals as possible we attend competitions in CT, NY, NJ and MA.  Throughout our program we reinforce the concept of healthy competition by keeping forward in our minds that we compete to gain knowledge, improve our skills and grow as people, as well as dancers.  We feel that this concept is vital to maintain a positive competition environment, and that it helps to keep the correct focus the fact that we are a Team!

It was a Great year for the competition team!
In our 2001 -2002  competition year we performed at the following Competitions and our competition teams won these awards:
